GamKI-Med: Second funding phase of the ZIM Innovation Network granted
The Research Campus STIMULATE is delighted that the second funding phase of the ZIM innovation network GamKI-Med has been approved. Following the successful completion of the first phase of the network, it has been extended until 31 March 2028. The second funding phase has been underway since 1 April 2026 and lays the foundations for further expanding the successful collaboration between businesses and research institutions.
The GamKI-Med innovation network aims to develop innovative medical applications based on artificial intelligence (AI), gamification and modern interaction concepts. The focus is on digital solutions that support both medical staff and patients alike – from treatment and rehabilitation through to training and continuing professional development. Numerous collaborations were initiated and new research and development projects launched during the network’s first phase alone.
The Research Campus STIMULATE also contributed its expertise in the fields of medical technology, medical imaging, AI and translational research to the network. Close collaboration with companies and clinical partners made it possible to translate innovative ideas into application-oriented development projects at an early stage and to further strengthen technology transfer.
A recent example is the collaborative project M.inivaS – minimally invasive hydrocephalus treatment using a cerebrovascular shunt. In collaboration with Christoph Miethke GmbH & Co. KG, the Medical Flows research group at the Institute of Medical Technology (IMT) at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is developing new approaches for a gentler and more precise treatment of hydrocephalus. The aim of the project is to investigate innovative minimally invasive therapeutic methods and thereby bring about a lasting improvement in patient care.
The approval of the second phase of the network highlighted the importance of GamKI-Med as a platform for knowledge and technology transfer between academia and industry. At the same time, it reinforced the Research Campus STIMULATE’s commitment to bringing innovations in medical technology to clinical application in collaboration with strong partners, and to the sustainable further development of Saxony-Anhalt as a centre for medical technology.
