STIMULATE is organising workshops at IEEE ISMAR 2026
The Research Campus STIMULATE will be represented at this year’s IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR) 2026 with two academic workshops. IEEE ISMAR is regarded as the world’s leading conference in the field of augmented, mixed and virtual reality, and brings together international researchers, developers and industry representatives every year to discuss the latest developments and future applications of immersive technologies. The conference will take place from 5 to 9 October 2026 in Bari, Italy.
The “MedicalXR – 3rd International Workshop on Medical Extended Reality” workshop provides an interdisciplinary forum for researchers and practitioners working on innovative XR applications in medicine. The focus is on new approaches to diagnostics, therapy, surgical navigation, training and clinical decision support using extended reality technologies. The workshop will be chaired by Dr Danny Schott and supported by other researchers from the STIMULATE Human-Machine Interaction working group.
At the same time, Dr Fabian Joeres is organising the workshop “XR4HRI – 1st ISMAR Workshop on Extended Reality for Human-Robot Interaction”. The aim of the workshop is to bring together researchers from the fields of extended reality and human-robot interaction to discuss new concepts for collaboration between humans and robots. Topics to be covered include visualisation and interaction concepts, teleoperation, usability, safety and XR-based digital twins for robotic systems.
The delivery of both workshops is supported by other STIMULATE participants from the Human-Machine Interaction research group, including Dr Florian Heinrich and Dr Tonia Mielke, who moved to the Technical University of Munich after completing her PhD at the Research Campus and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. This strong commitment at ISMAR 2026 underlines the international visibility of the Research Campus STIMULATE in the fields of Human-Machine Interaction and Medical Extended Reality.

STIMULATE gestaltet Workshops auf der IEEE ISMAR 2026
Der Forschungscampus STIMULATE wird auf dem diesjährigen IEEE Internationalen Symposium für Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR) 2026 mit zwei wissenschaftlichen Workshops vertreten sein. Die IEEE ISMAR gilt als die weltweit führende Konferenz im Bereich Augmented, Mixed und Virtual Reality und bringt jährlich internationale Forschende, Entwicklerinnen und Entwickler sowie Industrievertreter zusammen, um aktuelle Entwicklungen und zukünftige Anwendungen immersiver Technologien zu diskutieren. Die Konferenz findet vom 5. bis 9. Oktober 2026 in Bari, Italien, statt.
Mit dem Workshop „MedicalXR – 3rd International Workshop on Medical Extended Reality“ wird ein interdisziplinäres Forum für Forschende und Anwender geschaffen, die an innovativen XR-Anwendungen in der Medizin arbeiten. Im Fokus stehen neue Ansätze für Diagnostik, Therapie, chirurgische Navigation, Ausbildung und klinische Entscheidungsunterstützung mithilfe von Extended Reality-Technologien. Der Workshop wird von Dr. Danny Schott geleitet und von weiteren Forschenden der STIMULATE-Arbeitsgruppe Human-Machine Interaction unterstützt.
Parallel dazu organisiert Dr. Fabian Joeres den Workshop „XR4HRI – 1st ISMAR Workshop on Extended Reality for Human-Robot Interaction”. Ziel des Workshops ist es, Forschende aus den Bereichen Extended Reality und Human-Robot Interaction zusammenzubringen, um neue Konzepte für die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Menschen und Robotern zu diskutieren. Thematisiert werden unter anderem Visualisierungs- und Interaktionskonzepte, Teleoperation, Usability, Sicherheit sowie XR-basierte digitale Zwillinge für robotische Systeme.
Die Durchführung beider Workshops wird durch weitere STIMULATE-Beteiligte aus der Forschungsgruppe Human-Machine Interaction unterstützt, darunter Dr. Florian Heinrich und Dr. Tonia Mielke, die nach ihrer Promotion am Forschungscampus und der Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg an die Technische Universität München gewechselt ist. Das starke Engagement auf der ISMAR 2026 unterstreicht die internationale Sichtbarkeit des Forschungscampus STIMULATE im Bereich Human-Machine Interaction und Medical Extended Reality.
