15th VDI Forum “Physics Meets Medicine” – STIMULATE showcased medical technology expertise in Saxony-Anhalt
On 26 March 2026, the 15th VDI Business and Science Forum, themed “Physics Meets Medicine: Can Saxony-Anhalt Become a ‘Imaging Valley’ for Medical Technology?”, took place at the STIMULATE partner Fraunhofer Institute IFF in Magdeburg. The forum forms part of the VDI’s nationwide ‘Future Germany 2050’ initiative, which identifies and promotes key future-proof industries and technologies in order to strengthen Germany’s competitiveness as a centre for business and technology.
The Research Campus STIMULATE took the opportunity to showcase its central role in Saxony-Anhalt’s medical technology ecosystem. Thanks to funding from the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), STIMULATE has established itself as a hub for research, innovation and start-ups. The campus has become a magnet for medtech SMEs and has spawned pioneering spin-offs, including Neoscan Solutions, a manufacturer of high-performance MRI scanners, and RAYDIAX, a developer of interventional CT systems.
During the forum, STIMULATE experts from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the STIMULATE partners Neoscan Solutions and RAYDIAX presented the interdisciplinary collaboration between clinical practice, academia and industry. These teams develop innovative, patient-friendly and high-quality imaging solutions for minimally invasive procedures in oncology, neurology and cardiology. Clinical partners identify the needs, and the research teams then develop bespoke technologies that are tested and integrated into patient care.
The forum provided participants with insights into the technical features, areas of application and market potential of imaging techniques in Saxony-Anhalt. In the subsequent panel discussion, representatives from industry, academia and politics discussed the future of the region as a hub for medical technology, with STIMULATE contributing its expertise and vision: to bring about a sustainable improvement in medical care, both today and tomorrow, through innovative, image-guided techniques.
15. VDI-Forum „Physik trifft Medizin“ – STIMULATE präsentierte Medizintechnik-Kompetenz in Sachsen-Anhalt
Am 26. März 2026 fand das 15. VDI-Forum Wirtschaft Wissenschaft unter dem Motto „Physik trifft Medizin: Kann Sachsen-Anhalt ein ‚Imaging Valley‘ der Medizintechnik werden?“ beim STIMULATE-Partner Fraunhofer-Institut IFF in Magdeburg statt. Das Forum reiht sich in die bundesweite Initiative „Zukunft Deutschland 2050“ des VDI ein, die zukunftsfähige Schlüsselbranchen und Technologien identifiziert und fördert, um die Wettbewerbsfähigkeit des Wirtschafts- und Technologiestandorts Deutschland zu stärken.
Der Forschungscampus STIMULATE nutzte die Gelegenheit, seine zentrale Rolle im Medizintechnik-Ökosystem Sachsen-Anhalts zu präsentieren. Durch die Förderung des Bundesministeriums für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt (BMFTR) konnte STIMULATE als Keimzelle für Forschung, Innovation und Unternehmensgründungen etabliert werden. Der Campus hat sich zu einem Anziehungspunkt für MedTech-KMU entwickelt und wegweisende Ausgründungen hervorgebracht, darunter Neoscan Solutions als Hersteller von Hochleistungs-MRT-Geräten und RAYDIAX für interventionelle CT-Systeme.
Während des Forums stellten STIMULATE-Experten aus der Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg und den STIMULATE-Partnern Neoscan Solutions und RAYDIAX die interdisziplinäre Arbeit zwischen Klinik, Wissenschaft und Industrie vor. In diesen Teams werden innovative, patientenfreundliche und hochqualitative Bildgebungslösungen für minimal-invasive Verfahren in Onkologie, Neurologie und Kardiologie entwickelt. Klinikpartner definieren den Bedarf, die Forschungsteams entwickeln daraufhin maßgeschneiderte Technologien, die getestet und in die Patientenversorgung integriert werden.
Das Forum bot den Teilnehmenden Einblicke in die technischen Besonderheiten, Anwendungsfelder und Marktpotenziale bildgebender Verfahren in Sachsen-Anhalt. In der anschließenden Podiumsdiskussion diskutierten Vertreter aus Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Politik die Zukunft des Medizintechnikstandorts, wobei STIMULATE seine Expertise und Vision einbrachte: die medizinische Versorgung von heute und morgen durch innovative, bildgestützte Verfahren nachhaltig zu verbessern.
