Have a look, touch, ask questions: the STIMULATE ambulance at the Science Sisters STEM camp
Our show ambulance was in action on the OVGU campus this time. As part of the ‘Science Sisters’ event, schoolgirls had the opportunity to find out about the medical technology degree programme.
The two-day STEM holiday camp offers an insight into the content, requirements and career prospects of relevant degree programmes. At the end of the first day, in a relaxed atmosphere, the participants were able to tour the ambulance and explore the exhibits whilst enjoying a barbecue.
In addition, the schoolgirls were able to strike up a casual conversation with the operations manager, who is herself studying medical technology at OVGU and was therefore able to speak first-hand about the degree programme. The Research Campus STIMULATE, with its focus on medical imaging, was also presented. It became particularly clear that students here have the opportunity to actively participate in current research projects at an early stage – for example, through internships or final-year projects.
Another advantage is the Research Campus’s so-called ‘Industry-on-Campus’ model: companies, the university and the hospital work closely together here. This not only gives students insights into real-world applications, but also benefits them through streamlined career paths – such as a direct transition from university to industry.
The close interdisciplinary collaboration between engineering, medicine and research also enables students to examine complex issues from various perspectives and develop practical solutions – an important skill for their future careers.
There was a high level of interest – and we hope to see some of the participants back in the lecture theatre next year.
Reinschauen, anfassen, fragen: Der STIMULATE-RTW beim MINT-Camp Science Sisters
Unser Show-Rettungswagen war diesmal auf dem Campus der OVGU im Einsatz. Im Rahmen der Veranstaltung „Science Sisters“ hatten Schülerinnen die Gelegenheit, den Studiengang Medizintechnik kennenzulernen.
Das zweitägige MINT-Feriencamp gibt Einblicke in Inhalte, Anforderungen und Perspektiven entsprechender Studiengänge. In entspannter Atmosphäre konnten die Teilnehmerinnen am Ende des ersten Tages beim Grillen den Rettungswagen besichtigen und die Exponate erkunden.
Zusätzlich konnten die Schülerinnen locker ins Gespräch kommen mit der Einsatzleiterin, die selbst Medizintechnik an der OVGU studiert und so aus erster Hand vom Studium berichten konnte. Auch der Forschungscampus STIMULATE mit seinem Fokus auf medizinische Bildgebung wurde vorgestellt. Dabei wurde besonders deutlich, dass Studierende hier frühzeitig die Möglichkeit haben, aktiv an aktuellen Forschungsprojekten mitzuwirken – beispielsweise im Rahmen von Praktika oder Abschlussarbeiten.
Ein weiterer Vorteil ist das sogenannte Industry-on-Campus-Modell des Forschungscampus: Unternehmen, Universität und Klinik arbeiten hier eng zusammen. Dadurch erhalten Studierende nicht nur Einblicke in reale Anwendungsfelder, sondern profitieren auch von erleichterten Karrierewegen – etwa durch einen direkten Übergang von der Universität in die Industrie.
Die enge interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit zwischen Technik, Medizin und Forschung ermöglicht es den Studierenden zudem, komplexe Fragestellungen aus verschiedenen Perspektiven zu betrachten und praxisnahe Lösungen zu entwickeln – eine wichtige Kompetenz für ihre spätere berufliche Laufbahn.
Das Interesse war groß – und wir hoffen, einige der Teilnehmerinnen im nächsten Jahr im Hörsaal wiederzusehen.
