Honour and appointment as professor for Prof Dr Belal Neyazi
The Research Campus STIMULATE warmly congratulates Prof Belal Neyazi on being awarded the title of ‘adjunct professor’ (APL) by the Faculty of Medicine at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. With this award, the university recognised his outstanding achievements in research and teaching as well as his many years of commitment to academic education in January 2026.
Prof Neyazi has held a senior position at the University Hospital for Neurosurgery in Magdeburg since 2019 and obtained his habilitation at the OVGU in 2021. His clinical and scientific work has focused in particular on cerebrovascular diseases, including the risk assessment of intracranial aneurysms. He has used modern methods such as artificial intelligence, computer-assisted simulations and the analysis of inflammatory processes in vessel walls. Another focus of his work has been the further development of neurosurgical training, including through virtual reality and phantom models as well as nationally established training formats.
Prof Neyazi has been involved in research, teaching and knowledge transfer at the Research Campus STIMULATE for several years. He is currently contributing his expertise to the new STIMULATE joint project M.inivaS – Minimally Invasive Hydrocephalus Treatment Using a Cerebrovascular Shunt – which was launched on 1 January 2026. The aim of the project was to develop an innovative, minimally invasive shunt system for the treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) – a common and treatable cause of dementia in adults. By combining state-of-the-art imaging techniques, phantom model studies and numerical simulations, the project partners are testing new, patient-friendly therapeutic approaches. The kick-off meeting with the academic partners from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg and the industrial partner Christoph Miethke GmbH & Co. KG took place on 19 January 2026 at the Research Campus STIMULATE and laid the foundation for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Auszeichnung und Ernennung zum Professor für Prof. Dr. Belal Neyazi
Der Forschungscampus STIMULATE gratuliert Prof. Dr. med. Belal Neyazi herzlich zur Verleihung des Titels „außerplanmäßiger Professor“ (APL) durch die Medizinische Fakultät der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg. Mit dieser Auszeichnung würdigte die Universität im Januar 2026 seine hervorragenden Leistungen in Forschung und Lehre sowie sein langjähriges Engagement in der akademischen Ausbildung.
Prof. Neyazi ist seit 2019 in leitender Funktion an der Universitätsklinik für Neurochirurgie Magdeburg tätig und habilitierte sich 2021 an der OVGU. In seiner klinischen und wissenschaftlichen Arbeit befasste er sich insbesondere mit zerebrovaskulären Erkrankungen, darunter die Risikobewertung intrakranieller Aneurysmen. Dabei setzte er moderne Methoden wie Künstliche Intelligenz, computergestützte Simulationen und die Analyse entzündlicher Prozesse in Gefäßwänden ein. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt seiner Tätigkeit lag auf der Weiterentwicklung der neurochirurgischen Ausbildung, unter anderem durch Virtual-Reality- und Phantommodelle sowie bundesweit etablierte Fortbildungsformate.
Am Forschungscampus STIMULATE engagiert sich Prof. Neyazi bereits seit mehreren Jahren in Forschung, Lehre und Transfer. Aktuell trägt er mit seiner Expertise zum neuen STIMULATE-Verbundprojekt M.inivaS - Minimalinvasive Hydrocephalusbehandlung mithilfe eines zerebrovaskulären Shunts - bei, das am 1. Januar 2026 gestartet wurde. Ziel des Projekts war die Entwicklung eines innovativen, minimal-invasiven Shunt-Systems zur Behandlung des Normaldruckhydrozephalus (NPH) – einer häufigen und behandelbaren Ursache für Demenz im Erwachsenenalter. Durch die Kombination von modernsten bildgebenden Verfahren, Phantommodellstudien und numerischen Simulationen erproben die Projektpartner neue, patientenschonende Therapieansätze. Das Kick-off-Meeting mit den akademischen Partnern der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg sowie dem Industriepartner Christoph Miethke GmbH & Co. KG fand am 19. Januar 2026 am Forschungscampus STIMULATE statt und legte den Grundstein für die interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit.
