The ego. incubator “Startup Designer” is funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) until the end of 2027 as part of the “Science Focus Areas Saxony-Anhalt” initiative. These funds will be used to establish Startup Designer at the STIMULATE research campus of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg as a unique ego. incubator that puts design thinking at the heart of successful start-ups. Startup Designer will strengthen the spin-off process at the research campus and thus also in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, both thematically and structurally.

The Startup Designer project aims to:

  • Transform ideas – especially in the future field of medical technology – into marketable concepts through user-centered development formats. Whether in creative design thinking or intensive sprints: Innovative project ideas go through a structured innovation process that incorporates the real needs of founders from the outset.
  • To apply design thinking as a method in new formats to find solutions To promote creative problem solving, product development, and prototyping with intensive formats and methodical coaching.

The incubator specifically combines medical technology expertise with business management know-how and interdisciplinary perspectives. Close cooperation with various partners from the STIMULATE research campus, the transfer-oriented T!Raum Initiative transPORT, and leading companies creates practical synergies in Magdeburg's Science Harbor.

The journey leads from the annual “Smart Idea Factory” – where stakeholders from science, clinics, and industry jointly shape future topics – via user-tested prototypes directly into the start-up ecosystem and beyond. Networked with MakerLabs, regional entrepreneurship, and funding agencies, we pave the way for sustainable spin-offs. This is the ideal breeding ground for Startup Designer to develop solutions that move people—not only in the lab, but also on the market.

Der ego.-Inkubator „Startup Designer“ wird bis Ende 2027 von der Europäischen Union durch den Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) im Rahmen der Initiative „Wissenschaftsschwerpunkte Sachsen-Anhalt“ gefördert. Diese Mittel werden dazu verwendet, am Forschungscampus STIMULATE der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg den Startup Designer als einen einzigartigen ego.-Inkubator, der Design Thinking zum Herzstück erfolgreicher Unternehmensgründungen macht, aufzubauen. Der Startup Designer wird den Ausgründungsprozess am Forschungscampus und somit auch im Land Sachsen-Anhalt sowohl thematisch als auch strukturell stärken.

Das Startup Designer Vorhaben hat zum Ziel:

  • Ideen – besonders im Zukunftsfeld Medizintechnik – durch nutzerzentrierte Entwicklungsformate in marktfähige Konzepte zu verwandeln. Ob im kreativen Design Thinking oder in intensiven Sprints: Innovative Projektideen durchlaufen einen strukturierten Innovationsprozess, der reale Bedürfnisse von Gründenden von Anfang einbezieht.
  • Design Thinking als Methode in neuen Formaten anzuwenden, zur Lösungsfindung für Gründungsinteressierte und Gründungsteams.
  • Mit Intensivformaten und methodischen Coachings die kreative Problemlösung, Produktentwicklung und das Prototyping zu fördern.
  • Spezielle Gründungsideen aus der Medizintechnik und kreislauforientierten Produktentwicklung zu unterstützen.
  • Mit einem modular gestaltetem Kreativlabor und inspirierender Atmosphäre Studierende und Mitarbeitende mit modernster Ausstattung im Gründungsprozess zu unterstützen.

 

Der Inkubator verbindet gezielt Medizintechnik-Expertise mit betriebswirtschaftlichem Know-how und interdisziplinären Perspektiven. Durch die enge Zusammenarbeit mit verschiedenen Partnern des Forschungscampus STIMULATE, der transferorientierten T!Raum Initiative transPORT und führenden Unternehmen entstehen im Wissenschaftshafen Magdeburg praxisnahe Synergien.

Die Reise führt von der jährlichen „Smart Idea Factory“ – wo Akteur:innen aus Wissenschaft, Klinik und Industrie gemeinsam Zukunftsthemen gestalten – über nutzergeprüfte Prototypen direkt in das Gründungsökosystem und darüber hinaus. Vernetzt mit den MakerLabs, regionalem Unternehmertum und Fördermittelgebenden ebnen wir den Boden für nachhaltige Ausgründungen. Der ideale Nährboden, mit dem im Startup Designer Lösungen entwickelt werden, die Menschen bewegen – nicht nur im Labor, sondern auf dem Markt.
